Two -Year-Old Racing JULY 2022

Wednesday   July 20

Some interesting runners due to strut their stuff on Thursday.

Sandown 1.50 Arrest (FRANKEL) - a half-brother to Dinozzo (LILBOURNE LAD) RPR 112, the winner of five handicaps in Hong Kong over 8 & 9f.

Sandown 1.50 Nostrum (KINGMAN) - a half-brother to Imaging (OASIS DREAM) RPR 111,  who ran second in a 7f. Group 1 in Australia.

Leopardstown 5.30 She's Local (FSS TASLEET) - a half-sister to Maqaasid (GREEN DESERT) RPR 111,  who finished third in the 2011 1,000 Guineas. She's Local finished a well-beaten fifth on her debut over 5f. at Naas earlier this month.

Leopardstown 5.30 Nyota (ELZAAM) - a full-sister to Playa Del Puente RPR 112, the winner of an 8f. Listed at Dundalk before going to race in Hong Kong where he finished second in the Hong Kong Derby over 10f. Nyota (100/1) finished well behind (some late headway) on her debut over 7f. at the Curragh last month.

Leopardstown 7.00 Magnetar (FASTNET ROCK) - a half-brother to Visualisation (NO NAY NEVER) RPR 110, the winner of a 9f. Listed event at Listowel last September.

Leopardstown 7.00 Tower Of London (GALILEO) - a full-brother to Capri RPR 121, the winner of the 2017 edition of the St. Leger.

Doncaster 6.25 Hope You Can Run (LOPE DE VEGA) - a half-brother to Chancellory (MEDAGLIA d'ORO) RPR 104, finished third a Group 3 for 2-y-os over 8f. at Saint-Cloud last October. Hope You Can Run has shown a decent amount of ability in both his runs, a second on debut over seven at Doncaster and sixth place in what looked a hot race at Newbury again over 7f.

Newbury 6.38 Cruella De Vill (DUBAWI) - a half-sister to Lillie Langtry (DANEHILL DANCER) RPR 117, the winner of the Group 1 Matron Stakes over a mile at Leopardstown.

Newbury 6.38 Prepense (KINGMAN) - a full-sister to Headman RPR 118, the winner of two 10f. Group 2s in France.

Tuesday          July 19

It seems that the authorities feel that temperatures will acceptable on Wednesday so racing is back on track. I have spotted three that might be of interest.

Catterick 1.20 Highland Mac (GLENEAGLES) - a half-sister to Dressed In Fur (EXCEED AND EXCEL) RPR 100, who was placed at Listed, Group 3 and Group 2 as a 2-y-o in France (6-7f). Highland Mac was sent off the 1/3 f. on debut at Bath last week but after swerving right on leaving the stalls she was always going to struggle to justify those odds, she did manage to get her head in front but then seemed to be bullied (she looks a small filly) out of it by a rival either side of her, eventually finishing third beaten three-quarters of a length. Should be at a more backable price for this but you have to wonder if that debut experience will leave its mark.

Naas 7.00 Moulewowie (NIGHT OF THUNDER) - a half-sister to Something Enticing (FASCINATING ROCK) RPR 102, a winning 8-10f. handicapper who also finished second in a 10f. Listed at Doncaster. Moulwowie won quite nicely when making her debut over course and distance earlier this month.

Sandown 6.38 Mehme (ACCLAMATION) - a full-sister to the very good sire of sprinters MEHMAS (RPR 114), Mehmas was given that rating when winning the Group 2 2-y-o Richmond over 6f. at Goodwood. Mehme made her debut at Nottingham early this month, surprisingly weak in the market (17/2 out to 12s) she could only manage 5th. place beaten three lengths. As I've said before Sandown's 5f. course is not my favourite and her stall 8 doesn't really help. I'm expecting a much better performance but perhaps keeping an eye on the market might tell a story. This could end in tears!

Monday   July 18

Due to the extreme weather only Musselburgh takes place on Tuesday but I can't see anything of interest running there.

Sunday  July 17

With the extreme weather leading to the abandonment of two of Monday's meetings. Leaves us with just one runner of interest.

Ayr 2.25 Perfect Play (SIYOUNI) - a half-brother to Ispolini (DUBAWI) RPR 117, second in the 16f. Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup and the winner of the 14f. Group 3 German St. Leger. Perfect Play finished a well-beaten 9th. of 11 on debut over 6f. at York in May. The extra furlong here may help but he is likely to need even further to be seen at his best.

Saturday   July 16

A quiet day Sunday but there are four of interest.

Curragh 1.40 Calling All Angels (DARK ANGEL) - a half-sister to Duhail (LOPE DE VEGA) RPR 116, the winner of an 8f. Group 2 at Saint-Cloud last year. Calling All Angels made her debut over 7f. at the Curragh last month, finishing 5 lengths behind in 8th. place, making late headway after being behind.

Curragh 1.40 Cyber Attack (FSS SAXON WARRIOR) - a half-sister to Royal Commando (NO NAY NEVER) RPR 114, the winner of a 6f. Listed race at Doncaster last year.

Redcar 2.05 Dubai Mile (FSS ROARING LION) - a half-brother to Naadirr (OASIS DREAM) RPR 114, the winner of a 6f. Listed event at Doncaster.

Redcar 2.05 Star Player (ZOFFANY) - a half-brother to Stratum (DANSILI) RPR 115, the winner of a 16f. Group 2 at York. Star Player has had two runs, the second at Epsom over 7f. last month, third beaten two and three-quarter lengths by Benacre after meeting trouble in running.

Friday      July 15

As you expect a busy schedule of races on Saturday.

Newbury 1.15 Alpha Capture (COTAI GLORY) - an already gelded half-brother to Acklam Express (MEHMAS) RPR 113, finished third in the Group 1 5f. King's Stand at Ascot last month.

Newbury 1.15 Mutaany (INVINCIBLE SPIRIT) - a half-brother to Massaat (TEOFILO) RPR 118, the winner of the 2017 Group 2 Hungerford over 7f. at Newbury.

Curragh 1.30 Doamberdiplomat (COTAI GLORY) - a half-brother to Dragon Pulse (KYLLACHY) RPR 116, the winner of an 8f. Group 3 at Longchamp.

Curragh 1.30 Mucky Mulconry (PROFITABLE) - an already gelded half-brother Lola Showgirl (NIGHT OF THUNDER) RPR 104, the winner of a 7f. Group 3 at Lingfield (Turf) in May. Mucky Mulconry has shown very little in his two races to date.

Newmarket 1.42 Lady D'Ascoyne (SHOWCASING) - a half-sister to Percy's Lad (SIR PERCY) RPR 102, a winning handicapper at around a mile. Lady D'Ascoyne on her debut finished 4th. of 8 over 6f. at Goodwood beaten 6 lengths by Bet Me, that form is yet to be franked.

Newmarket 1.42 Zaakara (BOBBY"S KITTEN) - a half-sister to Zaaki (ROIDESLAMINEAUX) RPR 120, a Group 1 winner over 8-10f. in Australia.

Ripon 1.46 Desert Silk (MONDIALISTE) - a half-sister to Bochart (DUBAWI) RPR 114, the winner of 9 handicaps over 6-8f, at Meydan and Jebel Ali. Desert Silk has shown very little in her two runs but she drops into a seller here.

Ripon 2.26 Arnie Angell (FSS HARRY ANGEL) - a half-brother to Fly On The Night (EQUIANO) RPR 105, the winner of a 5f. Group 3 for 2-y-os at Chantilly.

Doncaster 6.15 Hey Lila (OASIS DREAM) - a half-sister to Urban Fox (FOXWEDGE) RPR 115, the winner of the 2018 Group 1 Pretty Polly over 10f. at the Curragh.

Doncaster 6.15 Statu Of Liberty (FSS WASHINGTON DC) - a half-sister to Domineer (SHAMARDAL) RPR 110, the winner of three 6f. handicaps in Hong Kong. Statu Of Liberty made her debut over 6f. at Newbury last month, finishing 9th. of 14 beaten eight lengths, making headway at half-way before weakening, better for the run.

Doncaster 6.45 Mother India (PROFITABLE) - a half-sister to Lexington Times (PACO BOY) RPR 106, the winner of a 7f. Listed race at Lingfield (A.W).

Haydock 7.00 Killybegs Warrior (FSS SAXON WARRIOR) - a half-brother to Ventura Knight (CASAMENTO) RPR 106, a winning handicapper at around 8f. Killybegs Warrior won nicely on his debut in what looked a sub-standard race for that course.

Thursday      July 14

There is plenty of 2-y-o racing tomorrow (Friday), it would be nice to find a juicy-priced winner, been a bit short of them lately.

Newbury 1.00 Lenormand (DUBAWI) - a half-brother to Best Of Days (AZAMOUR) RPR 110, the winner of the 2016 Royal Lodge (run at Newmarket) a Group 2 for 2-y-os over 8f.

Newbury 1.00 Seattle Time (TIME TEST) - an already gelded half-brother to Great Ambassador (EXCEED AND EXCEL) RPR 116, the winner of a 6f. Listed at York and ran second in the Ayr Gold Cup (6f.) last year. Seattle Time ran with plenty of promise on his debut over 7f. at Salisbury last month, slowly away and denied a run when needed but ran on for 5th. place only beaten a length and a half by Bajan Bandit.

Newbury 1.33 Chaldean (FRANKEL) - a half-brother to Alkumait (SHOWCASING) RPR 114, who, as a 2-y-o won the Group 2 Mill Reef over 6f. at Newbury. Chaldean was sent off the 100/30 jf., on debut at Newbury over 6f., he made late headway and was running on to take 5th. place, the extra furlong here should help.

Newbury 1.33 Classic Speed (KODIAC) - a half-brother to Was (GALILEO) RPR 115, the winner of the 2012 Epsom Oaks. The mare has mostly produced stayers but she did have a winner of a 2-y-o Listed race over 7f.

Newbury 2.08 Trillium (NO NAY NEVER) - a half-sister to Mohawk King (SIYOUNI) RPR 102, given this mark for 5th. place in the 2020 Gimcrack at York, a 2-y-o Group 2 over 6f.  On debut, Trillium ran a very creditable second to Galeron over 6f. at Goodwood last month.

Haydock 2.25 Eyeeye (FSS EXPERT EYE) - a half-brother to Steady Pace (DARK ANGEL) RPR 113, second beaten a short-head in a 6f. Listed race at Newmarket. Eyeeye didn't show a lot on debut at Ripon over 5f., finishing a rather distant 6th. of 8. Will benefit from the extra distance and that run.

Haydock 2.25 Tantalus (KODIAC) - a half-brother to Balty Boys (CAPE CROSS) RPR 117, the winner of a Group 3 over a mile at Haydock. Tantalus was a well-beaten 7th. of 10 on his debut in a rather hot 6f. event at York, slowly away but showing up on the outside of the field before weakening.

Newmarket 5.36 Nancy Angel (DARK ANGEL) - half-sister to Shamwari Lodge (HAWK WING) RPR 113, the winner of an 8f. Listed event at Goodwood.

Hamilton 6.17 Prince Nabeel (FSS SMOOTH DADDY) - a half-brother to Felix (LOPE DE VEGA) RPR 114, an all-weather specialist who was running and placing in Group company, suited by 8-9f. In the second of his two runs Prince Nabeel was only beaten a head by Metal Merchant over 7f. at Chelmsford. Already showing a preference for an artificial surface?

Wednesday          July 13

Four runners of interest on Thursday.

Leopardstown 5.15 Slieve Binnian (AWTAAD) - a half-brother to Muntahaa (DANSILI) RPR 118, the winner of the 2018 Ebor over 14f. at York. Muntahaa didn't run as a 2-y-o but was third on his 3-y-o debut over a mile.

Leopardstown 5.15 Montesilvano (HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR) - a full-brother to Numerian RPR 112, second in a 10f. Listed race at Leopardstown. Montesilvano never got into contention when 7th. on debut over 7.5f. at Roscommon.

Epsom 6.40 Camusdarach (FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND) - a half-brother to Monty (MOTIVATOR) 115, the winner of a 10f. Group 3 at Longchamp.

Epsom 6.40 Kingdom Of Dreams (OASIS DREAM) - a half-brother to Bow Creek (SHAMARDAL) RPR 118, the winner of an 8f. Group 2 at Leopardstown. Kingdom Of Dreams has had two runs, the second effort, at Doncaster over 7f., was quite promising only beaten 1.5 lengths in 5th. place behind Modern Dancer.

Tuesday    July 12

The dearth of interesting runners continues with Wednesday's cards.

Yarmouth 6.15 Al Dasim (FSS HARRY ANGEL) - a half-brother to Tashweeq (BIG BAD BOB) RPR 114, the winner of a 7f. Listed for 2-y-os and a third place in the Hunt Cup at Ascot. Al Dasim has already had two runs, the second of which was a decent effort to run a close second to Remarkable Force at Salisbury in May. He has now moved from Clive Cox to Kevin Philippart De Foy.

Yarmouth 6.15 Princeville (EXCEED AND EXCEL) - a full-brother to Yalta RPR 111, who, as a 2-y-o, won the Group 3 Molecomb over 5f. at Goodwood. Princeville made his debut at York over 6f. at the end of June finishing three-quarters of a length second to Pembrokeshire, perhaps being a little unlucky. Nothing that run in that race has re-appeared so the strength of the form is unknown.

Lingfield 7.00 Cluedo (KODIAC) - a half-sister to Too Fast (HAATEF) RPR 104, the winner of a 7f. Group 3 at York as a 2-y-o.

Lingfield 7.00 Rowdown Roza (CHARM SPIRIT) - a half-sister to Mabait (KYLLACHY) RPR 115, who dead-heated for first place in a 7f. Listed at Pontefract having previously gone close to winning a valuable mile handicap at Ascot, finishing a neck second to Dandy Boy. Rowdown Roza will be having her third outing, having shown little in her two outings to date.

Monday            July 11

Another quiet day on Tuesday.

Bath 2.00 Highland Mac (GLENEAGLES) - a half-sister to Dressed In Fur (EXCELLENT ART) RPR 100, second in a 7f. Group 3 for 2-y-os at Maisons-Lafitte.

Sunday   July 10

A look forward to a rather quiet Monday's racing.

Ayr 1.50 Beechwood Mick (HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR) - a half-brother to Mulaqat (SINGSPIEL) RPR 117, the winner of a 10.5f. Group 3 at Haydock in 2006.

Ayr 1.50 Star Of Midnight (CAMACHO) - an already-gelded half-brother to George Bowen (DARK  ANGEL) RPR 111, the winner of nine 6f. handicaps. Star Of Midnight finished 11th. of 16 over 6f. at Thirsk last month, missed the break and ran green. Will improve for the run.

Killarney 5.15 Hiawatha (CAMELOT) - a full-brother to Luxembourg RPR 118, who finished third in this year's 2,000 Guineas.

Windsor 5.35 Alberto (KODIAC) - a half-brother to Zapel (KYLLACHY) RPR 103, a Group 3 and Listed sprinter in Italy.

Navan 2.12 Wild Rover (FSS SAXON WARRIOR) - a half-brother to Richie Richie (TEOFILO) RPR 104, who finished 4th. in a 17f. Graded handicap in Tokyo. After making a decent debut over this course and distance in April, Wild Rover turned up again over C & D the following month but after getting upset in the stalls finished well in the rear.

Navan 2.12 Reinforce (FSS TASLEET) - a half-brother to Raatea (INVINCIBLE SPIRIT) RPR 101, the winner of two 6f. handicaps. Reinforce is having his third run, last time he finished a close third to Apache Outlaw over 6f. at Fairyhouse.

Chester 6.30 Metahorse (FSS HAVANA GREY) - a half-brother to Hyanna (CHAMPS ELYSEES) RPR 104, the winner of five handicaps over 10 - 12f. Metahorse is having his third run, having been placed in both his previous runs, a debut at Chester and a slightly disappointing beaten favourite at Newmarket. Both of those races over today's distance.

Wednesday   July 6

A look at Thursday's "interesting" runners.

Doncaster 2.35 Mill Stream (GLENEAGLES) - a half-brother to Asymmetric (SHOWCASING) RPR 109 who came third in last year's Prix Morny, a 2-y-o Group 1 at Deauville.

Tuesday      July 5

A look at Wednesday's runners.

Lingfield 2.00 Rowdown Roza (Charm Spirit) - a half-sister to Mabait (KYLLACHY) RPR 115, placed second in the 7f. Victoria Cup handicap at Ascot in 2010. Rowdown Roza made little impression on her debut at Newbury being slowly away and virtually tailed-off, reportedly lost a shoe.

Fairyhouse 5.55 Belatucadros (PROFITABLE) - a half-brother to Tie Black (MACHIAVELLIAN) RPR 111 for winning the French 1,000 Guineas in 2005. Belatucadros has shown little ability in his two runs.

Fairyhouse 5.55 Blanc De Noir (SHOWCASING) - a half-brother to Havana Grey (HAVANA GOLD) RPR 115 for winning 5f, furlong Group 1 and Group 2 at the curragh in 2018. Ffos Las 6.20 Immortal Beauty (COTAI GLORY) - a half-sister to Mehmento (MEHMAS) RPR 109, the winner of a &f. Listed event at Epsom last year. Immortal Beauty made a promising debut when third at Ascot but ran no sort of race when re-appearing at Nottingham becoming very upset in the stalls and being very wayward in the race afterwards.

Sunday  July 3

Another quiet day Monday.

Ayr 1.50 Common Acclaim (ACCLAMATION) - a half-brother to Albishr (CLODOVIL) RPR of 103 for second place in an 8f. 2-y-o Listed race at Salisbury. Common Acclaim showed some promise on his second run when fifth in a decent race at York last month.

Ayr 1.50 Ramz (HAVANA GOLD) - a half-brother to Romeo Lima (MEDAGLIA d'DORO) RPR of 104 achieved when as a 2-y-o when finishing 4th. of 5 (only beaten 2 lengths) in a 7f. Group 3 at Longchamp. Ripon 6.15 Claretina (FSS TASLEET) - a half-sister to Meliora (STARSPANGLEDBANNER) RPR 101 for winning a 10f. Listed at Fontainebleau. Claretina was a narrow winner on her second start, over 6f. at Carlisle.

Saturday   July 2

Not a lot to look forward to on Sunday with just the one horse I'm interested in.

Ayr 2.17 - Roaring Ralph (FSS ROARING LION) - a half-brother to Sandrine (BOBBY"S KITTEN) awarded an RPR of 108 for winning, as a 2-y-o, a 6f. Group 2 at Newmarket and for a second place in a 6f. Group 2 at York last year.

Friday        July 1

I find the fact that the blog hasn't been viewed for three consecutive days rather dispiriting but I will carry on with it. Slight tweaks, like raising the bar for qualification, previews of horses rather than races and reviews with just noteworthy comments on horses.

Preview of Saturday's entries:

Naas 1.25  -  She's Local (FSS TASLEET) - a half-sister to Maqaasid (GREEN DESERT) given an RPR of 111 for finishing third in the 2011 1,000 Guineas.

Naas 1.25 - Silmaniya (FSS EXPERT EYE) - a half-sister Sonaiyla (DARK ANGEL) RPR of 110 for winning a 7f. handicap at the Curragh in 2020. Silmaniya has shown a decent level ability being placed in both her runs in decent company.

Naas 2.00 - Amazing Show (SHOWCASING) - a full-brother to Sam Maximus who achieved an RPR of 106 when third in a 2-y-o Group 3 at Newmarket and then as a 3-y-o a third in a Listed at Newbury, both of those efforts over 6f.

Naas 4.18 - Shadowed (CARAVAGGIO) - a half-brother to Queenship (EXCELEBRATION) RPR of 106 for winning an 8f. Listed at Cork last September. Shadowed was a promising third on his debut over 7f. at the Curragh early last month.

Naas 4.18 - Yamazaki (KODIAC) - a full-brother to Kodiak West, RPR 103, for a fourth place in a 9f. fillies Group 3 at Chantilly. Yamazaki was a quite distant 5th. of 10 on his debut at Fairyhouse over 6f. at the end of May.

Secret Guest was given the "eye-catcher" tag by the Racing Post for his third on debut at Carlisle over 5f. behind Washington Heights ten days ago.

Nottingham 6.30 - Gifted Angel (DARK ANGEL) - a half-brother to  Inverleigh (EXCELEBRATION) RPR 106 for winning a 5.5f. Listed race at Navan. Gifted Angel has shown  some ability in his two runs over 6f. at Haydock.
